New Mexico First Convenes Energy Economy Town Hall

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, May 4, 2009 — Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish will join community members who share an interest in the future of New Mexico’s energy economy at the Albuquerque Convention Center on May 14. The event, Growing New Mexico’s Energy Economy, hosted by New Mexico First, will be held May 14-16. Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department Secretary Joanna Prukop and Economic Development Department Secretary Fred Mondragón will also speak to the group about New Mexico’s energy and economic concerns.

The town hall has attracted energy producers and advocates, business and community leaders, state government officials, tribal representatives, economic development professionals, and average citizens. They will work together to reach consensus recommendations for policymakers and state leaders on growing the state’s energy economy.

Throughout the state, New Mexicans are talking about the importance of a comprehensive energy policy that diversifies our sources of energy, reduces our nation’s risk of energy shortage, and addresses environmental issues. Many also point to the importance of integrating our energy goals into an overall economic development strategy for the state.
